Invasive Species beyond menacing......

It’s easy to get caught up in everything that is going on in the world. For most of us, our plates are full and the health of our properties seems a far-off concern. But, if we could, for a moment circle back, I’d like to nudge you a bit to make a little room in your lives for your property’s health. Remember our 50/50 grant program? Where else can you get someone to improve your property and have BSPOA pay up to $500? You don’t even have to lift a shovel. We take care of your yard’s health for you. Here’s just one of many reasons why removing your invasive plants is important:

Invasives eliminate biodiversity: By crowding out our native species, invasive species cause native population declines and even extinctions, not only in the native plant communities but in the beneficial insects, birds, and small animals that depend upon those native plants for their food source. When you eliminate the invasives, you allow the native plants that have been trapped in your soil to emerge. Soon, your property will be a biodiverse ecosystem again.

BSPOA members are eligible for up to $500 in matching funds (50/50) for the treatment of various targeted invasive species, ie: buckthorn, honeysuckle, garlic mustard, dames rocket, Autumn Olive, and others.

Interested in learning more about terrestrial invasive species impacting Door County? Have invasive plants on your property and want to know where to start?

Join the Door County Invasive Species Team (DCIST) for an Invasive Species Management Workshop at The Ridges Sanctuary.

You’ll learn how to:

Identify common invasive plants in Door County

Choose and use effective control techniques

Report new invasive species sightings

Whether you’re a landowner, volunteer, or simply interested in protecting local natural areas, this workshop will provide practical tools to help manage invasive species on your property and in the community.

This event is free, but registration is requested.
