Neighbors for a Safe Bay Shore Drive

BAY SHORE DRIVE SAFETY

By: Mary Dellanina

A new committee has formed among your neighbors called Neighbors for a SAFE Bay Shore Drive “NFSBSD”. Our vision is to transform Bay Shore Drive into a premier example of road safety for pedestrians, drivers, cyclists, pets, and wildlife through a combination of community awareness, police enforcement, and thoughtful traffic-calming measures.

This committee was not formed to change the current speed limit. Rather, our goal is to increase awareness among everyone who drives, bikes, or walks on Bay Shore Drive and our surrounding finger roads. With the many curves along BSD and the frequent presence of wildlife crossing the road, extra caution is essential for everyone’s safety.

We encourage neighbors to help spread the word about driving responsibly and protecting the safety of our community and the greater Door County area. Our goal is to be proactive—because none of us ever wants to see a life lost on the roads we share.

NFSBSD has support for their efforts from Randy Wiessinger – WisDOT Bureau of Transportation Safety and Law Enforcement Liaison/Consultant, Thad Ash – Door County Highway Department Chief Deputy, Kyle Veeser – Door County Sheriff Department, Susan Eisenhauer – Door County Public Health Manager, and Amanda Accardi – Destination Door County Community Engagement Manager.

Mark your calendars for the NFSBSD MEDIA EVENT with media outlets May 19, 2 PM at the Quarry. Speakers include Randy Wiesinger, Thad Ash, Steve Schopf, Egg Harbor Town Chair and Mary Dellanina.

If you would like more information or to receive updates from this committee, please email NFSBSD9@gmail.com.
